NEW FURNISHING FOR CHIESA DELLA SACRA DI SAN MICHELE
Sacra di San Michele di Sant’Ambrogio in Turin is a monumental complex overlooking the Valle di Susa. Built prior to the year 1000, the structure boasts a wealth of history and religious experience that every year welcomes thousands of visitors, all of whom are astonished by the architecture and th skills of artists capable of transforming stone into something eternal and alive at one and the same time.
Precisely for this reason, the management of the Sacra complex has always implemented minor changes and improvements to restore or renovate the furnishing inside the church.
This was exactly the case for two small capitals, one decorated with sorrel leaves and the other with pin oak leaves, in keeping with Benedictine tradition. The are both supported by a small column, standing on a classic base in turn placed on an octagonal “Byzantine” style plinth carved with the “grain d’orge” polka (a toothed stone-working axe). ...
